Ranga Shankara in May
It will be Drama in Afternoon this May! Yes, quite literally. Matinees on Sunday afternoons have caught up well among theatre enthusiasts of Bangalore. While we have run matinees on all days of our annual theatre fest, it has been sporadic during the rest of the year.
May ’07 will change that with a matinee every Sunday. Mallinatha Dhyana, One Day in Aashadha, Butter and Mashed Bananas, and Sankramana will perform at 3:30 PM on their Sundays in addition to the regular 7:30 PM show. Here’s to a new trend in theatre!
Our much awaited Mango Party happens on Sun, May 20th. Everybody is welcome to this bash – bring a kilo of an interesting variety of mango and eat as much as you can from the pool! Just CELEBRATE the King of Fruits.
Ten plays in Kannada, four in English and 31 shows is the equation for May. Many of the old favorites return for re-runs – Gumma Banda Gumma, Mysooru Mallige, Butter and Mashed Bananas (this play recently ran to packed and appreciative houses in Mumbai), Chandrahasa and Sankramana (which opened in April and is all set to be another super hit from Sanket and Surendranath) are the front-runners. Natraj Honnavalli’s treatment of Mallinatha Dhyana is said to be refreshing and interesting. B V Rajaram is quietly premiering his Mandra, based on S L Byrappa’s eponymous novel dealing with complex relationships.
For the Ranga Shankara Café, Anju Sudarshan and her team are gearing up for a “Combo-meals and a mango monthâ€.
