ART (French Play adapted in English)

art1

cult presents ART BY YASMINA REZA

Art, a French play written by Yasmina Reza, adapted in English, by
Christopher Hampton, is a play, that revolves around three diverse and
minimalist products of human nature. Three characters, aesthetes in their
own right, questioning their individual prejudices against each other.

Serge, a modernist, a puritan, but an afterthought of delusion. Marc,
characterized by the epitome of self-acclaim and classicist snobbery and
Ivan, an oblivious leaf, which flows in whichever direction the wind blows.

The three friends collide subtly into each others’ perspective and push each
other into an overwhelmed sense of egoistic urge towards moral self defense,
bringing out the extremes of human nature in the most sublime of ways. The
simplistic portrayal of a relationship severed at the seams, encompassing
Art as its supposed to be, universal and conflicting.

Natural players, differential lighting and apt music makes art a worth while
watch .( all this plus a not so creative tribute to Micheal jackson)

At Kyra this week

Sajid and The Lost Boys : Saturday Night, 5th September:

Sajid Akbar is at the forefront of a revolution of quiet acoustic music that
is replete with lyrics that carry more meaning than the carrying capacity of
the words that he chooses to use. If you are the kind that is not taken in
by the candyfloss fast-food music that seems to pervade the senses today,
then Sajid Akbar’s moody acoustic strumming and ambient, lazy, hypnotic ebbs
and flows will bind you in a spell.

Advaita : Sunday 6th September :

When asked about New Delhi’s fusion act Advaita who he auditioned, John
Leckie, one of UK’s most acclaimed record producers (Radiohead, Muse, The
Stone Roses) had this to say, “I’m sure Advaita will bring home a Grammy
Award, one day!” That is rich praise coming from a man who has been in the
industry for decades and started his career in Abbey Road, as a technician
on the Dark Side of the Moon album!

Dan Nainan Show only at Kyra, on September 10th 2009 8 pm and September 13th
, 9 pm:

Dan Nainan was your average Intel executive who would have to make
presentations before hundreds of people on behal…f of his company. Now Dan
was in a fix, because he had what we call ‘stage-fright’ and went through a
course in comedy to try and correct that. But doing that unearthed a hidden
talent – to make people laugh spontaneously! And before he knew it, he was
on ‘Last Comic Standing’ and was a full-time comedian! Dan’s parentage is
his opening line – half-Indian, half-Japanese. Now most of us didn’t know
this was possible, but one look at Dan will convince you that it is! This
unique gene-combination makes for some hilarious jokes as will testify Bill
and Hillary Clinton, and Mrs Tony Blair, who were in splits at his
insistent, hard-hitting but clean comedy. Having toured with the likes of
Russel Peters, Dan comes to India to spread mass hilarity

Trilok Gurtu : September 9th :

He is undoubtedly the World’s greatest percussionist and a treat to watch
LIVE. An opportunity like never before in Bangalore. Watch this virtuoso
take stage with his unique approach to percussion and drumming which
involves a ‘floor kit’ including cymbals, hi-hats, snares, toms and congas,
Indian tabla, dhol, drums, gongs, blocks, cowbells and his famous bucket of
water.TRILOK GURTU.
