Big B

Pierrot’s Troupe presents Big B an English Comedy on August 26, 7.30 p.m. at Ranga Shankara.

Story: Munshi Premchand
Script & Direction: Dr. M. Sayeed Alam & Niti Sayeed

‘Big B’? Not Mr. Bachchan. It is Mr. Premchan(d). Well, it’s an attempt to take Premchand down South… on the 125th year of his birth.

Big B is the dramatic English version of his celebrated Hindi short-story ‘Bade Bhai Saheb’,

The first of its kind… the first ever play in ‘broken English’. Savor this:

“Do not go outside, it is very nighty”. “I am well but my brother is in well”. “Knife without K is like Chaku without Cha, only Ku… Churi without Chu, only Ri..

It’s about two ‘English-educated-Hindi-speaking’ brothers — the ‘studious’ Kamta Prasad and the ‘sporty’ Samta Prasad. No wonder, the play revolves around History & Hockey, Geography & Gilli Danda and Chemistry & Cricket. And also Rekha Ganit…. Kamta’s favorite… as ‘Rekha’ is his heartthrob and the daughter of ‘Ganit’ teacher. So also Algebra, defined by Samta as “a subject on which even ‘Allah’ has no ‘Jabr’.
